1. The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) adopted the Strategy on a meeting of ministers for education and environment in Vilnius on 17-18 March 2005. The aim of the strategy is to develop and incorporate Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into their formal education system in all relevant subjects. Main objectives are policy framework to support ESD, promotion of sustainable development (SD), to equip educators and ensure adequate tools and materials for teaching, promotion and strengthening cooperation on ESD.

The connection between the R.A.V.E. Space project and UNECE strategy is in the content of the project which is completely in line with the ESD Strategy.

2. An Informal Ministerial Meeting on Sustainable Communities was held in Bristol on 6-7 December 2005, with the main aim to discuss and agree the benefit to all Member States of creating sustainable communities. Ministers noted that sustainable development is a fundamental objective under the Treaties of the Union that “requires dealing with economic, social and environmental policies in a mutually reinforcing way”. The Meeting also stressed the importance of role of education in developing skills for successful place-making and creation of sustainable communities. The ”Bristol Accord” on Sustainable Communities was adopted.
